About Me
About me
My name is Joshua Walsh. I have a background within computer science, as I attend a specialist computer academy for the last two years of high school where I gain a knowledge of C#, Java, Python and others. However I didn’t find it creative enough for me so I took a turn towards video editing and visual effects. After this, I studied BA (Hons) Post Production and VFX at Salford. Here I picked up many skills for the video pipeline
I see myself as a jack of all trades, working on all parts of the pipeline from cutting the edit to 2d motion graphics to colour grading and 3d visual effects. I am looking for a place that lets me demonstrate my skills as much as I can. I have worked within large teams for short film competitions so working within a team is something I enjoy. However, I welcome constructive criticism and use it to improve my work. I am a very well organized person and can stay calm and focused under stressful situations.
notable EXPERIENCE
TeleVideo, North West — Live Sport Colour Correction
Last Summer I did some work experience at TeleVideo. Here I undertook the responsibility of colorist within live sporting events. This involved helping set up and take down equipment and making sure the colour was matched across 6 cameras at once. I learned to provide a high level of skill for big clients such as League One Rugby.
Kodak X Nahemi X Adidas - Short Film Advert competition
During my final year of university, a friend asked if I wanted to help out on his short film. I was the main editor and visual effects artist, this entailed, myself editing all of the footage and directing the other visual effects artist on what to do. The competition had to be shot on film and had to be 35 seconds long however during filming 150 foot of film was wasted, this cut the amount of footage we was allowed to film. I felt this during editing for example, I couldn’t hold on shots I would of liked etc. I learned the meaning “we will fix it in post“ on this job on top of this I was given 4 days to edit it all. It took about 28 hours in 3/4 days to finish it all and I am happy with the outcome.
Afterwards, we was taken to London for the awards ceremony.
Sony Pictures Film - MGFX AND DESTRUCTION SIM
During the past few months I have been working on an upcoming short film for Sony Pictures. I joined the team at the start for motion graphics then progressed onto the spaceship destruction simulation. This is my first time working on a higher end production and learning the pipeline was a new but welcomed experience.
I won’t be able to show the composited shot due to the film not being finished yet.
